Silver K (a.k.a Marnie)

Artist

I’m a multi-discipline, mixed-media artist, writer, and an aspiring social worker! I enjoy working with both traditional and digital mediums, and in this exploration and discovery I've found my art to be a manifestation of my personal journey. I've only recently come to sharing my artwork, despite drawing since a young age, I've always been a bit shy about showing off projects etc. I'm coming to find, however, it IS the best way to improve...

A.) I generally use my UGEE direct interface tablet that I can draw directly on to. I utilise a smaller wacom tablet when travelling.
I also use a HUION drawing glove from Amazon (sweaty hands ain't good on that tech!)
and I started my digital drawing work on FireAlpaca (a free drawing software!). Now, I just purchased Clipstudio Pro (around £40), from money earned via commission's, so I can pursue my dream of publishing a manga! I recommend Clipstudio greatly, as the software is easy to get in to, and very user friendly.
In essence, having good tech for digital drawing is, of course, a bonus. However, there are many ways to draw and save money - FireAlpaca costs me nothing, and I create many of my artworks from that. Worth a peek!

A.) Generally I utilise simple pencils, anything will do, but for inking you really want a pen that feels good and you're confident using (i.e. not going to splutter ink everywhere!).
Local art shops or supermarkets is generally where I pick up pens/pencils and in terms of paints I really enjoy watercolour and acrylic painting.
As of July 19, I'm still working on building and cultivating a portfolio - so currently, commission's and creating notable pieces like fan art is my main objective, however, I really enjoy the video editing process, so I often find myself recording whilst I'm creating stuff and sneakin it online. I aim to release 2 videos per month, and tutorials - I'm going to gather some opinions via polls to find out what you guys wanna really be learning! Keep your peepers peeled!
A.) The option is always available, I print locally and know of some nice Scottish framing galleries close by, so I am happy and able to do that upon request! It will have an additional charge due to the framing costs.
A.) I'm inspired by many things, most importantly, when I'm looking to source inspiration (art/writer's block, we've all been there), I go straight to websites such as Pinterest and Instagram, because seeing other people's art inspires me to work on mine, and take little things from each piece you like.
Art is all about trying new things, not staying stagnant in one style. I find exploring different concept designs for character's a good way to get inspiration as well - look at your favourite characters and thoroughly analyse them.
Inspiration can come from the strangest places, that's why I'm always looking for it!
